Dry Cupping
Dry cupping is a non-invasive therapy where special cups (typically glass, plastic, or silicone) are placed on the skin to create a vacuum or suction effect.
Dry cupping is a non-invasive therapy where special cups (typically glass, plastic, or silicone) are placed on the skin to create a vacuum or suction effect.
This suction lifts the skin and underlying soft tissues (including fascia and muscle layers) upward, increasing local blood flow, promoting circulation, and helping to release tension in the muscles and connective tissues. The negative pressure created by the cups separates fascial layers, reduces stiffness, enhances tissue mobility.
Dry cupping can be used for a wide range of musculoskeletal issues and pain conditions, but it is particularly effective for treating back pain, neck and shoulder tightness, muscle strains, postural imbalances, restricted mobility, and chronic tension. It often leaves temporary circular marks or redness on the skin (similar to bruises) that typically fade within a few days to a week, as the increased circulation supports recovery and reduces inflammation in the treated areas. Many physical therapists and practitioners combine it with other treatments like massage or movement therapy for optimal results.
